String, clay, charcoal and Barbara Hepworth

Thinking about Barbara Hepworth and her string sculptures, we investigated sewing through clay, making hollow holes and looking for negative space. We used the whole room as our canvas; the children manoeuvred around the space connecting materials to their friends' structures and wrapped string around these. The children then used charcoal to observe and draw what they had constructed. Oh and there was the magical moment everyone decided to wrap clay around their bare feet and stomp around the room making clay prints.!
